Jennifer Nettles is a Twi-hard

Jennifer Nettles took to Sugarland’s website to share some thoughts about books in her recent blog post. No, it’s not a ‘you should read post’, but a fantastically written piece about the heartache caused by the gradual move towards all things digital. If you’re a reader and a book-lover…You understand… There is something fabulous about actually holding a book that you love. It has a smell, texture, and a comforting weight in your hand.

And what about bookshelves? I love my bookshelf. I sometimes go and just stare at it, chronicling those books I’ve read and those that still await me there. You can tell a lot about a person by their bookshelf. What will we fill them with if we stop reading tangible books? Tchotchkeys? What-nots? Those annoying “Precious Moments” figurines? Could it be that one day the bookshelf will be an architectural relic that will date to a building of a certain age. (“Ah yes, and the study, built in 1993, has actual built-in bookshelves, giving it a quaint, nostalgic, old educated charm”).

I find Jennifer’s realization charming…Knowing her feelings about books makes me feel a bit of commradery with her. Like we are ‘in this together.’ Of course, this feeling is most strong when she talks about some of the books she’s read.

And don’t worry, I crouched in the corner like every other full grown woman as I devoured the whole “Twilight” series. I couldn’t stop. But I was aware people might be looking at the cover and thinking, “there is a full grown woman obsessed with a book for teenage girls.” (Don’t even get me started about the book my mother made me read, “Something Borrowed.” It was a super fast read, and a guilty pleasure, and I loved it. While I don’t mind the title too much, I was devastated by the cover, telling her, “Mama, it’s pink!”. I don’t do pink fyi).

Jennifer also points out the correlation between books stores and record stores…And how they both are a place of gathering for all types of people in search of something. Of course, when Jennifer thinks of record stores it makes her think of the movie “High Fidelity.” When I think of record stores I think of “Empire Records,” but ya know…whatever.  Either way, if records and books both make the moves towards digital downloads, the stores will no longer have a need.

You can read the entire blog post here.

Oh, but since we have the same taste in reading material Jennifer…You would love the entire Emily Griffin series that goes with “Something Borrowed.” It’s fabulous, so I suggest you pick them up and have a little read…Don’t worry, the other books aren’t pink.

Taylor Swift & Taylor Lautner Nab MTV Movie Award Nomination

The nominations are out for the ever entertaining MTV Movie Awards.  Obviously the list is filled with vampires and werewolves along with a few blue alien/human hybrids thanks to Twilight and Avatar…but country music’s own Taylor Swift nabbed a nomination for her very first movie role in Valentine’s Day.  Taylor Swift and ex-boy-toy Taylor Lautner are nominated for my favorite catagory, Best Kiss.  Now, I’m not sure Taylor x 2 will take home the award since they are up against teenage-angsty couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart (that’s Edward & Bella for all of you people who live under a rock).  The MTV Movie Awards air on Sunday, June 6th.

‘The Blind Side’ Was Fantastic!

The-Blind-Side-movie

Yeah, I know Twilight’s New Moon is still crushing movie records (and rightly so!) but with this weekend being spent with family we decided to take in “The Blind Side”.    It is a very uplifting movie that is full of hope and triumph.  Knowing that it is based on a true story really helps it hit your heart strings.

Tim McGraw’s acting skills have grown by leaps and bounds since “Friday Night Lights”.  With him being out numbered by the women in his house  I wonder how much acting was really going on.  He plays a husband whose wife is very strong willed and gets everything she wants.

All 18  members of our family who went to see this movie (including my 2 young kids) were able to connects with Big Mike and we would recommnend seeing this movie and giving the Cullens a run for their money (that was a reference to New Moon for those of you who have been living under a rock).

Sugarland Spread Holiday Cheer & Pitch Music to Twilight

sugarlandtwilight-eclipse

It’s been a busy year for Sugarland – the duo starred in a primetime ABC special and produced their chart-topping CD/DVD release Live on the Inside – but they have one more treat for fans: Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles have released their first Christmas album Gold & Green.

Bush, 39, and Nettles, 35, show off their holiday spirit with a silly tongue-and-cheek Christmas commercial full of clichés, lights, good music and hot cocoa.

“I’m a sucker for Christmas music,” Bush tells PEOPLE of making the album, adding that his favorite holiday tune is Frosty the Snowman.

But, Bush says, writing original Christmas music is “a harder thing to do then you might imagine … You’re comparing yourself against the 15 most classic Christmas records ever written.”

Head over to People.com to see their funny Christmas commercial

In other Sugarland news it looks like Tawny will have something to smile about.  According to EW.com it looks like Jennifer and Kristian are setting their sights on a certain vampire movie…not sure if you have heard of it….it’s in that not so popular Twilight series….You know….Eclipse!

the overtly non-country groove of “Blood on Snow,” appears primed and ready for an appearance on a certain vampiric movie soundtrack. So is Twilight: Eclipse in the game plan? “Call ‘em up! That’d be great!” grinned Nettles. “Just say ‘Twilight’ again!” said Bush. (Twilight.)

Taylor to the Second Degree at a Hockey Game

Looks like Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner aren’t hiding from the public.  Although no one is confirming the reports of them dating they sure look comfy together at the Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Los Angeles Kings hockey game Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

I’m a HUGE Twilight fan so this suits my fancy just fine.  There is something wrong with you if you don’t think Taylor Lautner is just a little bit sexy . (that’s just my two cents)

Thanks to our friend over at Nashville Gab for finding the pictures at Celebrity Gossip.

Jewel and Her B-E-A-U tiful Smile

I have an whole new appreciation of Jewel after seeing this hysterical video from Jimmy Kimmel.  I love someone who can make fun of themselves.  If she doesn’t have a future in dancing I am sure that one of the sequels to “Twilight” could find a place for her.

Twilght Sequel gets the Green Light!

Hooray! I am thrilled to share with you the press release from Summit Entertainment I found on Stephenie Meyers website! They are telling us that the next book in the series, “New Moon”, is going to be made!

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES TWILIGHT SEQUEL – NEW MOON

Los Angeles, CA November 22, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series titled, New Moon. The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.

Stephenie Meyer stated, “I don’t think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I’m thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON.”

Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen, a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together…even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward’s nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

I am so excited! I cant wait!

“Twilight”- Totally Worth the Price of Admission!

Let me start by saying that I am an AVID fan of the Stephenie Meyer books. AVID. As in I have read them all a bazillion times, and obsess about them frequently. I am also an avid fiction reader in general, so I LOVE  books. So, as a huge, die hard fan of the book Twilight”, I was very nervous about how the movie would be. I would have been crushed if it had been awful, especially if it was awful and not true to the book.

Lucky for me, this was not the case. Twilight, which opened at 12 am this morning, (I was there! Woo Hoo!) was visually beautiful and well written. I had my doubts about Kristen Stewart as "Bella", but she proved me wrong. I thought she very accurately portrayed the role. Robert Pattinson, who plays "Edward" was, well phenomenal.. as well as HOT! HOT! HOT! Not kidding, Kitty is seriously thinking of taking up stalking for a second job.

Although I think "Twilight" was the best movie ever, there are still things that I missed or didn’t like about the movie. I do realize that there are things that have to be changed or left out, because you cant possible put an entire book into a two hour movie well, but there were important scenes and some of my favorite moment that either didn’t get shot, got changed, or get left on the cutting room floor. Although they are, for the most part, small things, I think the movie was lacking (Just a little!) With out them.

(MOVIE SPOILER ALERT.. DONT READ IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT YET!)

okay, you were warned. The meadow scene, which in the book is the turning point of the whole novel, is where Edward reveals his true nature to Bella. He takes here to the meadow, with the intention of testing himself and his self control. When he realizes that he can in fact be near her and not eat her, they confess their love, and share there first kiss. This scene, in the book, is a romantic scene. I love this scene. but in the movie, they made the tone more menacing. Edward seems angry with Bella, and shows off his speed and strength to scare her. This scene also happens very early in the movie, where as we wait like half the book while there relationship develops for this pivotal scene. So this change was the one that bothered me the most.

Other things that I didn’t like, or would perhaps do differently were only small things. I missed the scene where everyone starts asking Bella out to the girls choice dance. In the book, Eric asks Bella, then Mike asks Bella, then Edward deliberately blocks Bella’s truck from leaving the school parking lot so Tyler can have the opportunity to ask her. While this is by far not in anyway really important to the plot, and was covered in a different way in the movie, I still felt the original was was a fun scene that could have been done just as easily. I also would have liked them to have had the original conversation that Bella and Edward had in the Italian restaurant, where she tells Edward that he really shouldn’t dazzle people. He then asks if he dazzles her, and she replies, "Frequently". Again, not exactly essential to the plot, but it is still one of my favorite moments in the book.

I also found the choice to change the scenes where Bella cooks for her father, Charlie, in their kitchen, to Bella and Charlie eating at a diner an odd switch. Bella and Charlie and by definition loners, who shy away from public venues. This choice didn’t really bother me, per Se, I just found it interesting. I assume this choice was make due to the fact that it is far more visually interesting to watch people eat in a diner, where there are other people and some hustle and bustle, versus watching two people sit in a kitchen and eat. So that is really just a side note.

The only thing I really didn’t like, besides the changes to the meadow scene, was the way the made Edward look when he stood in sunlight. Edward is supposed to glitter and have rainbows bouncing off of him, but the sparkles where almost imperceptible.  It also didn’t look very real. I am not sure there is anyway to believably make a person sparkle, but I have to believe they could have done a better job than that.

Other than that, and believe me, these things were seriously minor, I absolutely LOVED THIS MOVIE. I plan to see it many more times, and add it to my collection when it is released on DVD. I hope they start shooting "New Moon", the next book in the series, soon. I don’t think I can wait another whole year, (or more) to see more Bella and Edward. I also hope they keep the original actors and actresses, because I don’t think I could handle any switches. I am already  bonded to these actors as their characters. I also hope they keep director Catherine Hardwicke and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg on. I think they have proven they can keep true to the feel of the book, while still being able to cut it down for screen time. I would hate to have fallen in love with the first movie, then have some other yahoo come in with a big budget and ruin the script.

Congratulation to Stephenie Meyer as well, who has a cameo in the film. You had a moment Stephenie, and it was brilliant. We all love you. Especially me. Call me, we will have coffee.
