Kenny Rogers Celebrates 50 Years with TV Special

Kenny Rogers

Kenny Rogers will be celebrating 50 years in the biz with a television special.  Joining him will be long-time friends Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Alison Krauss, Wynonna, The Oakridge Boys, and many  more. The special will not only feature some great musical entertainment, but comedy as well; and it will be filmed in 3D. So you can put your Grammy 3D glasses to use again when the special airs on April 10th.

Kenny Rogers: The First 50 Years will tape on April 10th, 2010 at the MGM Grand, and tickets will be available February 11th at 9am at www.mgmatfoxwoods.com,

When this was first proposed to me as a 50-year celebration, something about that sounded final, and I didn’t want that, so I suggested we call it ‘The First 50 Years,’” Rogers said. “I will tell you this, the first 50 years TV show is gonna be awesome – the next 50 years TV show is gonna be a bitch.”

The First 50 Years will reflect the diverse talent Kenny has crossed paths with and enjoyed friendships with throughout the years,” said Dreamcatcher Artist Management President/CEO Jim Mazza. “That is what will make this once-in-a-lifetime celebration so special.”

More details to come as artists are confirmed.

Dolly Parton’s Trinkets & Treasures Opening in Nashville

dolly

Dolly Parton is giving people another great reason to want to visit Nashville.  Dolly Parton’s Trinkets & Treasure will be her first-ever retail store and it will open in Nashville this week!

Located in an old storefront on 2nd Ave. the 1000 square-foot space reflects the Dolly “Coat of Many Colors” influence with a mix of pink, yellow, red, blue, green and purple–both in the interior and exterior–with Dolly music and videos filling the space.

Although the store won’t celebrate its grand opening until Spring 2010 with a special event hosted by Dolly, previews for the store begin this Tuesday (November 24) and the first 500 shoppers who spend more than $20 get a free Backwoods Barbie tour book.

The store  is located at 126 2nd Ave North, Nashville, TN (next door to Wild Horse Saloon) and store hours are 10:00 AM-8:00 PM Sunday through Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 AM-10:00 PM.

Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler Backstage with Dolly Parton – Picture of the Day

Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler

I just LOVE this picture. Kellie Pickler and Carrie Underwood pose backstage with Dolly Parton at Dolly’s “Live From London” DVD premiere party at the Tracking Room last night (Nov. 9) in Nashville, Tennessee.

The stars were out to celebrate Dolly’s new DVD, including Wynonna Judd and George Jones (I wonder if George had anything nice to say to Carrie last night).

Kid Rock, Dolly, and Charlie-Star Gazing

Kid Rock, Charlie Daniels, Dolly Parton

Kid Rock, Charlie Daniels, and Dolly Parton were presented with their stars on the Music City Walk of Fame today.  The Tennessean has a great rundown of the presentation today.

Before y’all get your panties in a wad and start spouting-off obsentities about Kid Rock….put on your walkin shoes and take a stroll through the Country Music Hall of Fame Park, and keep your eyes on the ground. You’ll see that many of the stars on the walk of fame are simply great musicians of all genres who love Nashville.

Even Kid Rock himself was aware of the ‘mixed emotions’ of the crowd…Apparently our website wasn’t the only place people were making their feelings known.

Rock said, “I was just as surprised at this as I’m sure a lot of you are. I heard the clash of screams and boos, and I understand. I’m not mad at anybody.”

Mayor Karl Dean even got in on the action…poking fun at Kid Rock.

Kid Rock came to town with a bang, liked it here and visits often,” Dean said. “We are glad he supports Nashville, and glad that he’s been staying out of the news when he’s here.” Rock responded during his acceptance speech.

“Mayor Dean, I’d also like to add, since you started the comments, that you have one of the finest police forces,” he said. “I’ve never seen a nicer jail.”

All kidding aside, Charlie Daniel’s was proud of Kid Rock’s ’star status.’

I think it shows great diversity,” he said before the ceremony. “Everybody that is involved deserves one, with the possible exception of me… I am extremely honored to be a part of what’s going on here today. As Humphrey Bogart said in (The Maltese Falcon), this is the stuff dreams are made out of. My dream was to become part of the Nashville music scene. It’s my chosen place to live, out of any place on earth. To be able to live here and to be recognized as part of the music business here is very special.”

Also present to receive her star was Dolly Parton.

It strikes me in a pure place in my heart and in my soul to know that I am part of this wonderful city and all of the wonderful things that have been here,” said Parton, who was clearly the star of the afternoon.

Dolly Parton New Box Set Streamed Early for Your Listening Pleasure

Starting today you can hear song from country music legend Dolly Parton’s new career-spanning box set, Dolly, one week ahead of its official release.   It is available for free, on-demand listening now through October 27 at: www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=113940261

The preview features first listens to classic Parton songs and seven previously unreleased tracks. Each song is accompanied by anecdotes and reflections from NPR’s resident Parton fans.

The four-CD box set Dolly offers 99 songs from Parton’s five-decade career in music. The exhaustive compilation demonstrates that the country legend is equally adept at spinning old-school bluegrass tunes and belting out slick Nashville pop. A true icon even beyond her chosen genre, the performer is known for voluminous blonde wigs and over-the-top rhinestone dazzle that are only eclipsed by the enormity of her talent. It’s the ability behind the image, NPR’s Trey Graham writes, that makes her “one of the greatest singer-songwriters country music – and maybe the country – has ever produced.”
