Dolly Parton & Queen Latifah Join Together on the Silver Screen

Dolly Parton will return to the silver screen alongside Queen Latifah in “Joyful Noise,” a musically driven feature that tells the story of an unlikely partnership between two strong-minded women who are forced to work together to save a small town Gospel choir after budget cuts threaten to shut them down.

“Joyful Noise” will also feature musical contributions from Dolly, who says, “I’m writing a few songs for the movie, and I’m real happy about that.”

“I’m really happy to be doing a movie with Queen Latifah,” Dolly says. “I really like her and have often thought we would be fun together. Even though we play rivals in the movie, I’m sure we’ll have our fun behind the scenes.”

The iconic American singer, songwriter, film star and entrepreneur adds, “I’m so happy to be doing a movie about music–especially happy because it’s Gospel music which I grew up singing and loving. I think we need something uplifting in this day in time! So yep, happy, happy, happy–that’s me.”

Blake Shelton to Release Greatest Hits

The 9513 has a FANTASTIC interview with Blake Shelton. Not only does Blake reveal that he’d love to do a show with Katy Perry, Kellie Pickler, Shania Twain, and Faith Hill, but he also says he’d love to have dinner with Conway Twitty, Neal McCoy, and Dolly Parton. But besides the humor and wedding plans, Blake also discusses a very important project he’s got coming out.

The next step for me is a greatest hits album in November. I know that’s not a new project, but it is a big deal to me because I always thought that I would have made it if I had a greatest hits album; I would have had some impact if that ever came out. So that’s going to be something that’s a big deal to me. We have accomplished something that the company wants to put out an album with 15 songs on it. I can’t believe that 11 years have gone by since I’ve been doing this.

Even though Blake has obviously had PLENTY of success on his own; he’s making sure to plan for his future and Miranda Lambert is a big part of that.

I look at it that Miranda is my retirement. (Laughter) And “The House That Built Me” is me investing into my retirement. She’s like the world’s best 401k.

Something tells me Blake isn’t going to need Miranda’s moola if he keeps pumping-out hits like he’s been recently. You can read the full interview here.

Pink Harley-Davidson Bike for Charity Stolen

If you see a pink Harley-Davidson on the road covered with autographs of country stars, you might be looking at a stolen bike. And, the Lexington, Kentucky Susan G. Komen people would like it back.

It’s supposed to be auctioned off at a breast cancer fundraiser in October. The 2010 Harley-Davidson Sportster was inside a locked trailer, which was secured with chains in the Susan G. Komen parking lot.   People who work for the charity noticed the trailer was missing when they got to work on Monday.

The Lexington Herald-Leader says the cycle had been signed by several country stars, including Taylor Swift, Kellie Pickler, Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood and Dolly Parton.

Nashville Rising-Big Stars Come Out to Support Flood Relief

Last night was the much anticipated Nashville Rising Benefit concert to raise funds and awareness for Nashville Flood Relief. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill used their star power and called in the big guns, beckoning friends to lend their hands, voices, and talents for a concert to raise funds for the Nashville Rising Flood Concert.

The line-up was stellar, and eclectic enough to give everyone something to enjoy. I also have to give props to the crew and the band, The Dance Hall Doctors. No only were the set-changes seamless, but the band hung-out on stage for over 4 hours, playing along with all of the acts.

Each performer sang one or two hits, and Carrie Underwood kicked-off the night. Although everyone did an amazing job, there were several highlights of the night that got the sold-out crowd on their feet. The crowed errupted when Lynyrd Skynyrd sang “Sweet Home Alabama,” Miranda Lambert gave me a surprising case of chill-bumps from a phenomenal version of “The House that Built Me,” and Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins always rowdy-up the crowd with “Hillbilly Bone.” The crowd went nuts when ZZ Top came out to perform “Sharp Dressed Man.”

Surprises of the night….Trace Adkins showing up to perform with Blake, tons of video appearances from Reese Witherspoon, Dolly Parton, and Matthew McConaughey. America’s Sweetheart, Sandra Bullock also made a personal appearance. Looking stunning, and being her usual witty self, Sandra introduced Faith Hill to the stage, but not without a very poor attempt at playing “Smoke on the Water” first.

“Ok who am I kidding,” she said as she put down her instrument. “I can’t play for crap.”

Luke Bryan, Toby Keith, Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, a very tattooed Billy Ray Cyrus, Martina McBride, Amy Grant, Michael W Smith, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Montgomery Gentry also performed.  Many guests shared their opinions about the lack of media coverage, but all showed pride in their Tennessee ties and roots.

Over all, the event was amazing. And, I’m sure when all is said and done the event will have raised between $2-3 Million for the Community Fund of Nashville.

Dolly Donates Big Bucks for Flood Relief

Dolly Parton is donating $250,000 for flood relief to help Nashville and surrounding areas rebuild after last month’s flood.

“My husband took me to see the damage done by the flooding, and I was absolutely unprepared for what I saw,” Parton said. “I knew right then and there that something had to be done to get those families who’d lost everything back in their homes. And that’s what the mayor, the other Karl Dean, and the United Way have so graciously agreed to help me do. Get this money to those folks who are hurting the most.”

Dolly will donate the funds raised during her Dolly Helps Nashville event on May 22 and 23 to the United Way’s Restore the Dream Fund. The donation includes net admission proceeds from Parton’s Dollywood and Dixie Stampede properties in Pigeon Forge, as well as fan contributions to DollyParton.com.

“I know that it’s going to take a lot of effort and hard work and money to reverse the damage,” Parton added. “I know, too, that folks in Nashville have been great supporters of Dollywood and Dixie Stampede, so I wanted to let them know that we understand that they are suffering, and we’re here to help like good neighbors should. As my Dollywood theme park marks its 25th anniversary this season, we’re celebrating the dreamer in everybody. I think it’s really fitting that we can work through the Restore the Dream Fund, and, with this contribution, help bring dreams and hopes and peace of mind to my fellow Nashvillians.”

Way to go Dolly!!! Even with the millions raised, Nashville will continue to need help and funds in the months and years to come. If you’re coming to CMA Fest, don’t forget to lend a hand with HandsOnNashville.com

Dolly is a “Backwoods Barbie”

Where do I start in this review of Dolly Parton, the woman, the icon, the Barbie? Dolly Parton was my first country concert – she was touring with Porter Waggoner and Mel Tillis and selling laundry soap with towels inside! My first apartment was furnished w/those towels and washcloths – I called them “Dolly’s” towels and I’ve admired this woman for decades because she is timeless!

Dolly has been a writer her entire life and her songs have touched millions of people around the world. So have her good works, only one of which is the Dolly Foundation which, among other services, provides free books to pre-school children across America and Canada. She has had a successful acting career – “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” and “9-5” and her famed “Dollywood” in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee has drawn millions of people over the years. Dolly is admired and loved – by the world. I even have a friend who had her sign his arm and immediately had it turned into a tattoo. Her fans are true blue and loving and Dolly gives back to her fans as much as a country artist can.

She greets fans personally whenever she can at Dollywood and also in her new venture in Nashville, “Trinkets and Treasures”. I will be a visitor there during my next visit – I’m excited to see her store and I’m hoping she will be there that day!

Her album, “Backwoods Barbie”, is true Dolly from cover to cover on the CD. The song “I’m Just a Backwoods Barbie” sums up Dolly to a “T”. I remember the years when people questioned her costumes and wigs and makeup – but Dolly pursued and it is her persona and it works! The song talks about being a “Barbie” – all dressed up from the backwoods and how she dreamed she could have it all. The Backwoods Barbie is not as shallow as she looks because the goods are all there and she should be given a second chance because she grew up with a country girl’s idea of “grand” and she is real.

“Better Get to Livin’” is a catchy tune she has really written from the heart. She has people coming to her and asking her how she seems so happy and successful all the time. Her advice is the song of the title – you just better just get to livin’!! Practice attitude, giving, be willing and forgiving because it is all up to you! Give up the whining, walk away from the unappreciated and be more willing to live a better way and if it gets too rough, get on your knees and pray! She has a marvelous way here of bring you out of any doldrums you might be in – just follow the advice of Dolly and her song and you will soon be on your way!

“Shinola” is a toe-tapper of a song that talks about an attitudinous handsome man who is so full of himself he is shallow and does not know love from “shinola” – haha – I love this song! She tells about how women need love and affection and he’s so into himself that he doesn’t even know what a woman wants or needs and is incapable of loving anyone but himself and she is tired of his crap and outta there! The song tells it like it is in no uncertain words and Dolly lets loose on this song.

This CD is a must have for anyone who has loved Dolly and her famed “9-5” live because it is also on the CD as a bonus track!
There is too much about her life to write about here but you can go to her official website at http://www.dollypartonmusic.net/aboutdolly.html for a complete rundown on Dolly’s life. You can also find her on Facebook, Twitter (as Dolly_Parton) and there is even an iPhone App Fan Wall for her!

Dolly Parton Helps Flood Victims

Dolly Parton is stepping-up to help the victims of the recent flood in Nashville. During the up-coming weekend, May 22-23, all of the proceeds from admissions to Dollywood, Dollywood’s Splash Country, and Dixie Stampede will go to a special fund to assist Nashville flood victims.
