You Can Choose the Space Shuttle Wake-Up Songs

Only two space shuttle flights are left. That means there are only a few chances to choose music for the astronauts’ wake-up calls. Normally, that music is selected by family and friends of the astronauts. But, for the end of the shuttle program, NASA is throwing it open to the public.

You can vote on any one of NASA’s top 40. Those are NASA favorites that were used to wake up astronauts. They include tunes from Willie Nelson, Aaron Tippin, Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett. There’s another angle to this. NASA is accepting original songs. They’ll be voted on, too. Details are at https://songcontest.nasa.gov

Aaron Tippin Helps Keep Truckers Truckin

Aaron Tippin helped select the winner of the third annual Arrow’s “Back on the Road” campaign. “Back on the Road” awards one deserving driver a new 18-wheeler that, in turn, provides them the opportunity to get back to the road and stay on course.

After being nominated by his teenage daughter Savannah, Robert Snyder of Dunnellon, Fla. was selected as the winner. As the sole provider for his family, Snyder was hit particularly hard when the economy nosedived. Diesel prices soared, job opportunities became scarce, and Snyder’s 14-year-old truck, with more than 1.5 million miles on the odometer, was one breakdown away to leaving him unemployed.

“Driving is my life and I know receiving the Volvo from Volvo Trucks North America and job with Heartland will help me provide my family with the life they deserve,” Snyder said. “I am blessed to have this opportunity to represent Arrow Truck Sales and all the great companies who have joined in this campaign to make life better for hardworking people like me.”

Tippin has participated in the selection process for the past two years.

“It’s a tough time for everyone and I believe the truckers carry a good portion of the burden,” Tippin added. “America thrives on the trucking industry and the hard working men and women who bring goods to our grocery stores and front doors. It does my heart good to be involved in an event, and an association such as this, to keep these folks on the road; working to not only provide for their families, but all of us.”

A packed house turned out Friday, Jan. 22 at the Nashville BMI offices to recognize singer-soldier-songwriter Darby Ledbetter for his ongoing 10-year service in the National Guard and his emerging career as a Country artist. Following in the footsteps of artists like Kid Rock and Three Doors Down, Darby is only the third artist chosen by the National Guard to have one of his songs, (“I Won’t Let My Guard Down”), chosen for a national movie theater ad campaign. Darby is preparing to deploy for his fourth combat tour overseas, with plans to release his debut album, Soldier Up, in the near future.

Aaron Tippin to Receive Patriotic Award

Aaron Tippin will be honored with the DAR Founders Medal for Patriotism by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution on Friday, July 10th at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington DC.  The award is given to…

…an adult who has displayed outstanding patriotism in the promotion of our American ideals of God, home and country through faithful and meritorious service to community, state and nation. Founders’ Medal recipients must have displayed extraordinary acts of heroism, service, patriotism and achievement. The medal is presented in recognition of deeds, service or educational pursuits that go far beyond the obligations of an individual’s employment or normal duties.”

After September 11th, Aaron wrote “Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagles Fly.” Tippin also makes frequent trips to perform for soldiers.

“This is an honor for which I am without words,” said Tippin. “Regardless of what we think is right or wrong, or politically correct or incorrect, the bottom line is that our American brothers and sisters are fighting for our freedom—to speak freely and live freely. I do not take their sacrifices lightly. This is a privilege and I feel the absolute necessity to recognize those who make it possible. It’s just a part of who I am…to support men and women who are willing to ‘stand for something’ and I will continue to ‘stand’ for them.”

Congrats Aaron!
