Show Your Support for Jimmy Wayne with a Meet Me Halfway T-shirt…soon

Soon, you can show your support for Jimmy Wayne and his walk to raise awareness and money for homeless children and teens by sporting a t-shirt.  The shirt is being created by a nurse who walked with Jimmy on his first day. Cynthia Sparks of Jabez, Kentucky, says Wayne’s walk triggered memories of homeless children in an emergency room where she once worked. So, she wanted to help his cause. There’s no word yet what the T-shirt looks like. But, it’ll be available on Wayne’s Web site, http://meetmehalfway.jimmywayne.com/ in a few weeks.

Jimmy Wayne Posts Live Blog From The Road

Jimmy Wayne broadcasted live today from just outside of Jackson, Tn.  This is his 11th day of walking to raise awareness for homeless teens who have aged out of the foster care system.  Jimmy thanked Marmot for supplying the clothes that keep him warm, all of the people who donated to Meet Me Halfway in his name, and  everyone who stopped and bought him a coffee or let him sit in their car and charge his cell phone.  He also wanted to let everyone know that he reads all of the tweets that he gets and he appreciates each one even though he can’t answer them all.

Jimmy Wayne said his goal is to generate enough awareness to get 500,000 people to get involved and donate at least one dollar, he said that would make a huge impact to help the Meet Me Halfway organization.

Jimmy also said now that he has access to ustream he will start broadcasting as often as he can and said to keep checking the website for videos from the road. You can also watch today’s broadcast there as well.

CMTT will be making a donation to Meet Me Halfway in Jimmy’s name. Click on the ‘donate’ button on the right to help out.

Jimmy Wayne’s Walk for Meet Me Halfway

Jimmy Wayne

Jimmy Wayne is a week into his walk from Nashville to Pheonix to raise awareness and funds for the homeless.  Jimmy’s cause now has it’s own website.  You can keep up with Jimmy’s tweets from the road, and get all the lastest information at meetmehalfway.jimmywayne.com and find out how you can help Jimmy’s cause.

“This situation is one we as a nation need to talk about because there is a fix,” Wayne said. “No one should be without a roof over their head and a warm place to sleep at night. But there are hundreds of thousands of kids in this country who are faced with exactly that problem. I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of people on my walk—I know what America is made of, and I know we can help these kids. It’s amazing how something as simple as walking can influence many to take a stand.”

Jimmy will also be doing his first live broadcast from the road on Monday, January 11th at 9am.

It’s been a rough couple of days for Jimmy because the Tennessee weather hasn’t exactly been ‘normal.’

“I’ve had to sleep inside the past several nights because of these single digit temperatures,” Wayne said. “That wasn’t my plan, but sometimes Mother Nature wins. Next week the area will hit highs in the 40’s, downright balmy compared to what it’s been, and I hope to get some good hours of walking under my belt.”

Jimmy Wayne is Recharged and Walking on to Arizona

Jimmy Wayne Walk

Jimmy Wayne recharged his internal and his electronic batteries last night by getting a motel room. It was the end of the fourth day of his walk from Nashville to Phoenix to raise awareness about homeless kids and teens who are “aging out of the system.” On his Twitter page Jimmy said yesterday morning he awoke with ice on top of his sleeping bag and “inside and outside the tent it was miserably cold.” Despite the frozen temps, Jimmy tweeted that he “felt like a failure for not sleeping outside” last night. But, he says he’ll “have plenty more chances to make it up.”

Jimmy all of us are keeping our thoughts and prayers with you.  The awareness you are brining to the homeless has been fantastic already.  Stay positive and keep your spirits high.  We love and support you!

What Jimmy Wayne Learned from Brad Paisley

jimmywayne_art2

Before Jimmy Wayne set out on his long, cold and lonely charity walk, he took a look back at 2009.

He was one of the opening acts for Brad Paisley’s “American Saturday Night” tour. Jimmy says he watched Brad interact with fans and others after the show. He says he “knew he had to be tired, but he would stand there to the bitter end, and he would talk and he would give someone his undivided attention.”

Jimmy says that wasn’t all. Brad “would turn and he wouldn’t even get half of a step and someone else would stop him.” Jimmy says he’ll remember that, not that he’s “ignoring people, but that’s something you don’t forget. You see someone bigger than you still doing those things.”

I’m sure tJimmy’s walk for the homeless will be a very humbling experience for him.  Make sure to follow him on Twitter @jimmywayne as he documents his journey.  Also, think about giving a donation in Jimmy’s name to HomeBase Youth Services.

Jimmy Wayne Begins His Walk

jimmywayne_art2

Most people spend New Year’s Day hanging out with friends and family and watching football. Not this year for Jimmy Wayne. He’s missing all of that. And, he’ll miss his home for maybe a couple of months. Jimmy is starting his walk from Nashville to Phoenix. It’s more than 1,600 miles. The walk is to raise awareness about homelessness, especially for at-risk kids and young adults. That’s something that affected Jimmy personally when he was a teenager. He’s also hoping to raise money for a couple of organizations that help at-risk kids and young adults: HomeBase Youth Services in a Phoenix and Monroe Harding in Nashville.

Country Music Looks Back at 2009 and Rings in 2010

happy-new-year-2009

Happy New Years Eve!  Today is the last day of 2009 so make it a great one!  Country Music Tattle Tale wishes all of our readers a very safe and happy new year full of great country music!    Take a look at what some of your favorite artists are thinking as they look back at 2009 and the plans they have for 2010.

Taylor Swift New Year's Eve 2009

Taylor Swift wants some spontaneity for her New Year’s resolution. She says her resolution probably will be something she determines “very close to New Year’s Eve.”

big kenny

Big Kenny of Big and Rich plans to ring in the New Year on an undisclosed island. It’s someplace where he can get a gnarly rum drink. Kenny says “it’s an original spot where some of the best pirateers in the world hung out, and they really make a good rum drink down there, too.” But, he won’t reveal the spot. He says, if he spills “the name of the rum drink, you might know where I’m going.” And, he says he doesn’t “want to release that information for fear that, well, it could end up being the largest New Year’s Eve party in the world, actually, on water.”

Jimmy Wayne Boxers

Jimmy Wayne is amazed when he looks back at 2009. He says the highlights were “definitely going on tour with Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley” and recording his current single “Sara Smile.” Jimmy says with those two things, he’ll “walk away from 2009 thinking, ‘Wow. That happened?”‘ He says he’s “very thankful for that.”

Phil Vassar

2009 “kind of all runs together a little bit” for Phil Vassar. He’s playing Las Vegas tonight. Then, he has break for a couple of weeks. Next, he dives into his 2010 tour. Phil says before his tour begins he’ll take that window and “sit and think about it and mellow out. Sit on your couch and go, ‘Wow. OK what happened this year?”‘

Jimmy Wayne to Walk 1500 Miles to Stop Homelessness

jimmywayne_art2

Jimmy Wayne To Walk Halfway Across America Beginning Jan. 1

Country music recording artist Jimmy Wayne will launch his “Meet Me Halfway” campaign on January 1, 2010 when he begins his solo walk halfway across America in Nashville, TN. Wayne’s intention is not only to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless, especially at risk children, teens and young adults, but also raise funds for organizations that benefit homeless youth, including HomeBase Youth Services, a Phoenix, AZ — based organization that provides essentials for homeless young adults. Wayne will begin the walk at 10:00 a.m. CT on January 1st at Monroe Harding in Nashville, another organization that services at risk children and young adults. He plans to walk to Phoenix, AZ.

“I realize beginning a mission like this in the dead of winter and walking through the middle of the country is going to be difficult, but I hope and pray I am up to the challenge,” Wayne said. “It’s going to be cold, rainy and maybe even snowing and that ground I sleep on at night is going to be really hard. But that’s what the homeless are dealing with each and every winter they go without a home of their own. Our country is too great for us to have people who are suffering so. And events of the past 12 to 14 months have increased the number of people—especially children and young adults—without a safe place to sleep. We as a nation have got to end homelessness and we’ve got to help these kids.”

Wayne grew up in a variety of foster and group homes, and occasionally found himself homeless as a teen. He was given a second chance when Bea and Russell Costner gave him a home and fresh start when he was only 16 years old. He has never forgotten the generosity of the couple, who were in their 70’s when they took Wayne in.

“Bea and Russell took a chance on me, and I was certainly no poster child for adoption,” Wayne said. “I was this teenager with long hair and tattoos, but they saw past that to the scared kid I was. They met me halfway by offering me a place to live and the opportunity to go back to school. But in turn I had to meet them halfway by helping myself, which meant studying, doing chores and following the rules. They provided me with a way to help myself make a life. They gave me a home, love and respect.”

“It’s been really hard to sit still and watch everything going on in our country since last year’s troubles on Wall Street began,” Wayne said. “While so many of these people received bailouts, and even bonuses, blue collar and Middle America has suffered. From my past, I know first hand what the homeless are experiencing—no roof over your head, no real certainty that there will be any food for the day and just hoping the pair of shoes on your feet lasts another winter. No one in this country should be faced with that kind of situation — especially kids. But unfortunately thousands of people are going though this each and every day.”

Wayne selected HomeBase Youth Services as the recipient of any donations people care to make because of the work they do with homeless young adults (age 18 –21). Like most charitable organizations, HomeBase has also been hit hard by the economic woes of the country. HomeBase is an Arizona-based, non-profit organization founded in 1991 to address the growing needs of at-risk and homeless youth age 21 and younger. At age 18, many youth “age out” of the foster care or juvenile justice systems without the necessary life skills to live independently; as a result, they quickly end up homeless and on the streets. Other youth choose to flee their homes after years of mental, physical and emotional abuse or neglect. HomeBase addresses the needs of this “forgotten” population, and assists these promising young people with the tools they need to live healthy, independent lives. The programs and services include Street Outreach, Mobile Medical Outreach, Employment and Life Skills Training, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Care, a Resource Center, a Transitional Living Program and an Independent Living Program. The mission of HomeBase Youth Services is to teach at-risk and homeless youth how to become self-sufficient adults.

“Because I was helped when I needed it, I want to try and help now,” Wayne said. “If the bit of celebrity I have can help me raise awareness of this situation –that there are kids and young people out there who need our help, then I feel like I have accomplished my goal. I’m not asking people to come out and walk with me, but I am asking them to meet me halfway by getting involved– donate money, adopt a kid, learn more about the foster child/foster parent program in your local community. There’s so much one person can do, and so many ways they can make a difference. It just takes one person to help someone to a better life.”

Marmot Sportswear is providing Wayne with essential cold weather clothing for Meet Me Halfway. Tuesday Night Opry Review

Opry 12-1-09 117

This past Tuesday, Tawny and I went down to the Ryman for my first Grand Ole Opry experience. We saw Jason Michael Carroll, Jimmy Wayne, Whispering Bill Anderson, The Whites, and Dierks Bentley.  This was also my first time hearing Jason Michael Caroll and Jimmy Wayne live. I must say I was not disapointed.

Jason Michael Carroll sang “Where I’m From” and “Hurry Home”, his new single which is such a gut wrenching song. Every time I hear it I mist up. I was very impressed with his vocal talent, he is one of the best live performers I have heard and I must say I love the new haircut!

Jimmy Wayne sang “I Love You This Much” and “Sara Smile”. I really love this new single and hearing it live was just as great, he has such a smooth voice. After hearing him sing Sara Smile live it really made me wish my name was Sara.

Dierks was the last to take the stage after some rousing christmas tunes from Bill Anderson, and a round of bluegrass which I appreciate but do not love.  He sang “Lot of Leavin’ Left To Do”and my personal favorite “Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes”.  Hearing that song live is fantastic, I love Dierks Bentley even if he didn’t come out and sign autographs after the show like Jimmy Wayne did.

All in all my first Opry experience was a good one, I will definitely be back!
