Why Are The Eagles, Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban Canceling Stadium Shows?

Three stadium concerts featuring the Eagles, Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban have been canceled, according to the Eagles’ website. No reason was given for the cancellations and refunds will be available at the place of purchase.

They were scheduled to perform at Citizens Bank Ball Park in Philadelphia on June 14 and at Hershey Stadium in Hershey, Pa., on June 15.
The National Park show in Washington, DC show was also cancelled.

There are tons of speculations swirling around the Internet as to why the shows are being cancelled. One website claims the Philadelphia show was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Some fans are speculating in online message boards that Dixie Chicks are playing “Divas” on the road and say enough seats aren’t being filled for their opening act slot. While others are saying drug problems for Eagles bassist Timothy Schmit is the reason for the cancellations.

In all of the digging I have done to try to find out the reason behind the cancellations it looks as if no one is pointing the finger at Keith Urban.   Who knows why these things happen and some sources say more cancellations may occur.

Top Tours So Far This Year – Are Ticket Prices Too High??

Kenny Chesney

As much as I would not call myself a Kenny Chesney fan anymore it looks like he is still doing something right.  Kenny Chesney is the only country act in the Top 10 of Pollstar’s annual midyear report, ranking the most successful concert tours at the halfway point of every year.

Kenny landed at a very respectable number 7 on the list.  With Britney Spears taking number one, Fleetwood Mac (2), Celine Dion (3), Elton John/Billy Joel (4), the Eagles (5),  and Bruce Springsteen (6), Chesney and Dave Matthews (8).

Rascal Flatts took in number 18 and George Strait number 30 so far for this year.

Looks like the secret to the success for this year may be lower ticket prices.  Kenny says he does realize how tough things are right now for fans.

”I know this is a rough summer,” said Chesney. “I remember how it is when you want to, and you gotta figure out what you’re not gonna do. It’s why we’ve really tried to keep the prices reasonable… put on a good show… but especially to give people for those few hours a reason to just have a good time. I can’t solve the problems, but maybe I can get you to forget… to laugh… be free and remember how great it feels to be alive.”

“When you have to decide,” said Chesney, “I wanna know we’re giving the people the best show, that we’re a good way to spend your money. That we’re stacking up against such big tours – and music that is anything but what we do, well, that makes me proud for the genre, too.”

Rascal Flatts are very well known for their great stage show. The boys put on one hell of a show (one that I would never pass up) but I don’t have very much to say about their ticket prices. They seem to creep up just a little bit more each year and I worry that if something doesn’t change we may be paying upwards of $100 per ticket here in Nashville soon.   I would prefer that they stop lugging around 13 buses of their stage around (it costs almost $13,000 per show to move their stage) and strip down their performance in return for lower ticket prices.

Would you rather pay higher ticket prices for a BIG stage, fireworks and show or lower ticket prices and make it all about the music?

I can’t think of a better show on CMT right now than Crossroads.  Every time they release a new show I think they get better and better.  My only wish is that Rascal Flatts and the Eagles do a show VERY SOON!……. Congratulations to ALL Of the 42nd Annual CMA Award Winners.

Here is my quick rundown if you don’t have time to read the entire life post….

The Eagles didn’t have any business performing, Lady Antebellum won the most deserving award last night, James Otto messed up the beginning of his song but he sounded great, Jason Aldean kicks ass on stage, Darius Rucker has found a place in country music, George Strait is boring to watch but loves to take home awards, Miranda Lambert showed her soft side and we love it, Shania Twain still looks amazing but should have done more last night, yes, we know.  Carrie Underwood can sing, Kenny Chesney is still Entertainer of the Year but we DO NOT agree with this decision and finally – we saved the best for last – Rascal Flatts are still and will always be the Greatest Vocal Group of the Year!

Steph in the City has some great pictures from the CMA After parties.

CMA Predictions from Tennessean

It’s kinda long but funny in places. It’s a nice run down of what you are going to see tonight on the CMA show.

  • Love that he is making fun of the fact that The Eagles are nominated for a country award.
  • LOVE even more that he says that Rascal Flatts are definitely and easily the most popular COUNTRY group in modern days.
  • He is giving it a toss up almost between Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift for Female Vocalist of the Year.  I think Carrie will get it to ….but we will see!
  • Love that he agrees with us here that Rascal Flatts are NOT nominated for Entertainer of the Year and the fact that it is ridiculous!  (Although he is wrong – Rascal Flatts have given over $3 million to the Monroe Chidren’s Hospital over the years)

CMA Awards – Who Care’s

I almost wish that Rascal Flatts would not have been nominated for Vocal Duo/Group of the Year, that way I could completely boycott the entire show for being so stupid.  I guess since this will be their sixth award in a row I have to a least tune in to watch them accept it.

They have announced a few more performers for the evening, unfortunately Rascal Flatts is not one of them.  Of coarse all of the artists that are nominated for Entertainer of the Year will perform as well as Kid Rock, Trace Adkins, Lady Antebellum and the Eagles.

Now I am sure that you will find as this blog matures that I have my own personal favorites in country music. You will also find that I sometimes will play a little bias towards my favorites but I must stop right there any say…..

Country Music Association – you have way stepped past what I call civilized by passing up Rascal Flatts this year for a nomination for Entertainer of the Year! What were you thinking?

They have one of the largest fan bases in country music, they are selling out venues that no one else can and they have sold over 17 million records! Really – what were you thinking?

I supposed my guess is that Kenny Chesney will win it again this year – hell, he is leading the nominations with seven, but you could have at least rewarded their hard work, rigorous tour schedule and adoring fans with a nomination.
