Amy Grant & Vince Gill Draw Elephants for Charity

Amy Grant and Vince Gill were asked to draw pictures of elephants, a symbol of hope, for Target House. Looks to me like they both took quite a different approach.

Nashville Rising-Big Stars Come Out to Support Flood Relief

Last night was the much anticipated Nashville Rising Benefit concert to raise funds and awareness for Nashville Flood Relief. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill used their star power and called in the big guns, beckoning friends to lend their hands, voices, and talents for a concert to raise funds for the Nashville Rising Flood Concert.

The line-up was stellar, and eclectic enough to give everyone something to enjoy. I also have to give props to the crew and the band, The Dance Hall Doctors. No only were the set-changes seamless, but the band hung-out on stage for over 4 hours, playing along with all of the acts.

Each performer sang one or two hits, and Carrie Underwood kicked-off the night. Although everyone did an amazing job, there were several highlights of the night that got the sold-out crowd on their feet. The crowed errupted when Lynyrd Skynyrd sang “Sweet Home Alabama,” Miranda Lambert gave me a surprising case of chill-bumps from a phenomenal version of “The House that Built Me,” and Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins always rowdy-up the crowd with “Hillbilly Bone.” The crowd went nuts when ZZ Top came out to perform “Sharp Dressed Man.”

Surprises of the night….Trace Adkins showing up to perform with Blake, tons of video appearances from Reese Witherspoon, Dolly Parton, and Matthew McConaughey. America’s Sweetheart, Sandra Bullock also made a personal appearance. Looking stunning, and being her usual witty self, Sandra introduced Faith Hill to the stage, but not without a very poor attempt at playing “Smoke on the Water” first.

“Ok who am I kidding,” she said as she put down her instrument. “I can’t play for crap.”

Luke Bryan, Toby Keith, Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, a very tattooed Billy Ray Cyrus, Martina McBride, Amy Grant, Michael W Smith, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Montgomery Gentry also performed.  Many guests shared their opinions about the lack of media coverage, but all showed pride in their Tennessee ties and roots.

Over all, the event was amazing. And, I’m sure when all is said and done the event will have raised between $2-3 Million for the Community Fund of Nashville.

You can see all of our pictures here.

Faith Hill And Tim Mcgraw Sell Their Beverly Hills Digs

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have sold their huge home in the hills above Beverly Hills. The Los Angeles Times says it went for $9.5 million. The home has six bedrooms and seven and a half bathrooms in more than 10,000 square feet. That includes a master bedroom suite with his-and-her bathrooms and a gym. The two-story home is Mediterranean-style with grounds that cover four acres. It’s gated and has views of a nearby canyon and further views of the city of Los Angeles.  Tim and Faith were orginially asking $14.8 million for the property.

Tim and Faith are hosting tomorrow nights Nashville Rising Benefit Concert at the Bridgestone Arena here in Nashville. It is sure to be one heck of a show with Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, Lynyrd Skynrd, Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Jason Aldean, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and Luke Bryan.

You can see more pictures of the Beverly Hills property by clicking here.

Tonight, the WSMV Vince Gill & Friends Telethon is raising some big bucks for the Nashville flooding. Not only did the stars who call Nashville home step-up and make a donation, but our neighbors from around the country also stepped-up. The grand total of the evening reached over $1.7 million.

Vince Gill & Amy Grant donated $100,000, Taylor Swift donated $500,000, Nissan donated $300,000 and also is giving flood victims employee pricing to replace their lost vehicles.

The telethon is still going on and you can stream live on www.wsmv.com to donate and make a difference, or call (877)345-1522 The 2nd Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee will be benefiting from some of the funds raised tonight. $1 provides four meals, and they’ve handed out over 70,000 meals just in the past 3 days. The Legendary Amy Grant “Somewhere Down the Road”

“Somewhere Down the Road” is here  – a new CD released by Amy Grant, one of America’s most loved and respected artists whose veteran career spans three decades. She put Contemporary Christian music “on the map” being the first artist of the genre to claim a platinum record, perform at the Grammy’s and also be the first Contemporary Christian artist to hit #1 on the pop charts.

Amy, who is married to Vince Gill of legendary country music stardom, has been singing and writing songs with mixed elements of folk, country and Contemporary Christian and has 3 multi-platinum albums, 6 other platinum and 4 gold albums to her credit.

Also to this great lady’s credit are the numerous charities she has helped over the years, including St. Jude Research Hospital, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Compassion International, Red Cross, Second Harvest Food Bank, Woman’s Cancer Research Fund, Sarah Cannon Cancer Center and a host of others too numerous to mention here. She has also hosted an NBC prime time series “Three Wishes” and added a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Her new album is a collection of new music as well as four previous songs, including a new and revised version of “Arms of Love”, first written in 1982. Not only was most of the album recorded in the home she shares with Vince, he helped produce the album and also sang background vocals along with his daughter, Jenny and her daughter, Sarah Chapman, from her marriage to singer Gary Chapman. You can hear a duet by Amy and Sarah on “Overnight”.

The first single from the album, “Better Than A Hallelujah,” has been five weeks at No. 24 on the Billboard list of most popular Christian songs. It is a wonderfully honest and poignant song that points out you do not have to be dressed up in fashion just to talk to God. The song speaks of lullabies and mothers in tears in the dead of the night, soldiers who plea not to die, and even the cry of a drunkard. This song makes you realize that many times all these things that we think about or cry about, or even laugh about – if we share them all with God whenever we want to, He thinks it’s better than a Hallelujah in your Sunday best, because you are sharing yourself with Him just as you are.

“Overnight” is the duet with her daughter, Sarah, and is a very intuitive song about the fact that, if everything happened overnight, you would never learn to appreciate the process. You would never know the faith it takes for good things to happen nor would you appreciate what you have earned. If we really thought about this song we’d all realize that instant success or whatever we wish to have overnight would leave us shallow and unappreciative in the long run. It’s the challenge and the climb that is much more rewarding and this song is a remarkable melody reminding us.

“Somewhere Down the Road” is sung first softly by Amy, then with power as she speaks of walking “down the road” with Jesus. She can only imagine being surrounded by forgiveness and wonders about imagining creation and all broken lives resurrected. This is a powerful Christian song painting wonderful and glorious visions of the life after with the Almighty – “Somewhere Down the Road”. This one gave me the chill-bumps – it is a beautiful song.

With this new CD, Amy reaches out and touches the heart of the listener. She captures the essence of woman flawlessly. This is one CD that needs to be in your collection – period.

You can follow Amy at www.amygrant.com, www.myspace.com/amygrant, www.twitter.amygrant and her music is available on Amazon, iTunes and various other electronic media for download.

Music for Morgan Benefit – A Fan Review

“Morgan Watson is a vibrant, young girl with a zest for life that is contagious wherever she goes. She is kind and caring with a heart full of love that is evident in her smile and all that she does. Her courage and faith are immeasurable. Her love for God has given her the strength she needs to fight this battle and the faith to know she can win.”

The venue is The Listening Room Cafe (www.listeningroomcafe.com) in Nashville, Tennessee. It is my favorite ,and undoubtedly, the best room in Middle Tennessee for listening to some of the best singer/songwriters in the business today.

The event for this evening was a benefit to support Morgan Watson who is currently battling ALL Leukemia and featured great music, a raffle and a silent auction with items donated by Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Kellie Pickler, Randy Houser and more.

Despite fighting this disease, which has or will affect everyone at some time during their life, all of us can learn a little something about ourselves from the attitude and bearing of this young lady. For more information on Morgan Watson or how to help her in her fight: www.CaringBridge.org/visit/morgan_2011, www.facebook.com/prayformorgan, www.Morganwatsonfoundation.com.

The players tonight represent some of the best talent Nashville has to offer and if you haven’t taken the opportunity to catch a singer/songwriter show, you are seriously depriving yourself of some of the best entertainment available. Tonight’s host, and primary driving force, behind this event was Briana Tyson (www.myspace.com/brianatyson). In addition to being a brilliant songwriter, she is clearly a remarkable person. Anyone who hasn’t put together a benefit or charity event before would be astounded the logistics of getting everything together and the love that goes into an event of this size. Ms. Tyson and her friends and family, deserve 5 stars and two thumbs up for putting this one together.

The show opened up with Jennifer Adan/Mark Lonsway (“She Wouldn’t Be Gone”), Phil Barton (“American Dream”), Johnny Bulford (“Don’t Make Me Love You”), and Claire Wyndham/Ben Thompson (“Ordinary Words”). At a normal songwriters round, this would have been more than enough to satisfy anyone…but Briana Tyson had more.

Two more rounds featuring more songwriters you should be looking at. The second set, all girls, featured Jacy Dawn with Mike Valeras (“Just Enough of Your Love”), Baylie Brown with Josh Roberts (“Wasting My Minutes”), Dani Flowers (“Prodigal Daughter”), and Jordyn Shellhart (“Time, Fly”). Following these four talent women, the 3rd set was composed of Brian White (“Unfinished Life”), Jennifer Zuffinetti (“If You Don’t”), Lee Roy (“Wonder What God’s Thinking”), Elaine Roy (“Rain”), and Steve Dean (” Roundabout Way”).

All of these artists can be found on MySpace, Facebook, or their own personal pages so, be sure to look them up and get your butts out there to see them live as soon as you can.  All in all it was a spectacular evening and I heard the event raised more than anticipated to help Morgan in her fight against this disease.

Amy Grant to Release “Somewhere Down the Road”

SDTR low res cover

Amy Grant will release “Somewhere Down the Road” on March 30th, The 12-track set includes four new songs, several previously unreleased tracks from her musical vault and a newly recorded version of “Arms of Love.”

Somewhere Down the Road reflects an accomplished artist at a time of renewed creativity and also echoes the life of a woman who is not afraid to write and sing about life’s most heart-wrenching moments as well as the sublime joys.

“There have been times in my life that I was sitting in the cat bird seat and everything was going my way, but currently, this is a time [with] a lot of uncertainty within my extended family as we’ve experienced pain, loss, and joy,” admits Amy who has dealt with aging parents and the loss of a close friend this past year. “This is the kind of record where it takes maturity to put out, so we went back and looked at old songs, unreleased songs, and new songs that fit together in a way that I think will make a really amazing and intriguing journey.”

“From a work stand point, I’ve had the amazing opportunity that anything I’ve ever wanted to try, for some reason, the door has opened. I love music as much as I always have, but I feel very contented when it comes to work. What brings the sizzle back to me is a great idea and it can be somebody saying, ‘hey, I have this idea for a song!’ As soon as they speak the words I go, ‘Ahhh, that’s great. We’ve got to sit down and do it right now.’ That’s how I felt about this project.”

The first single from the new project, “Better Than a Hallelujah,” is Amy’s first new radio single since “Simple Things” in 2003.
