Musicians Hall Of Fame And Museum’s Fate Not Certain

The founder of a downtown Nashville museum dedicated to musicians says the city isn’t offering enough money for his property. Joe Chambers opened the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2006. A year later, he learned it stands in the way of plans for the city’s convention center. The Tennessean reports that project architects had considered placing the museum inside the new convention center. But instead, the city has started legal proceedings to seize Chambers’ property. Chambers says the museum property is worth about twice the $4.8 million the city is offering. About a month ago the museum inducted its latest group of musicians: Chet Atkins, Billy Cox, Dick Dale, Charlie Daniels, Fred Foster, Victor Feldman, Paul Riser and the band Toto.

Another convention center for Nashville? I’m wondering how many Nashville needs to “reinvent”? I managed fan fair booths in the old one in the ’80′s and visited the current one this past June which is really big and very nice – and Nashville needs another one? The Sommet Center should be able to accommodate any “overflow” conventions if the convention is so large as to need more room than the convention center can provide. In Columbus OH we have built 2 in, I think, about 40 years while only adding on to the 2 current ones. We have one of the largest conventions in America when the Arnold Swarzenagger Classic is in town and we utilize both centers.
