As I was trying to recover from my CMA Awards hangover from last night I was fighting the urge to call up Tawny and start yelling. Not because she is the one who made the decisions I disagreed with last night but because she is the one that allows me to yell, scream and cuss without yelling back.
There were so many great surprises and wonderful moments but I also think that there were a lot of moments that were missing from the evening. CMT.com blogger Alison Bonaguro summed up what most of us were thinking once the smoked cleared this morning:
Even being nominated, they say, is an honor. But after years of watching country awards shows, I have to say it that it felt so strange to NOT have Kenny Chesney accepting anything at last night’s CMA Awards with a heartfelt speech about being from East Tennessee. Or Rascal Flatts NOT joking around on stage, awards in hand, while they thanked God and their wives. And there was a big fat void without Keith Urban doing some charming Australian-accented thing (although he did win musical event of the year prior to the telecast) or Carrie Underwood trying to stop the tears welling up in her eyes while she thanked fans, country radio and her mom. I’m not saying I disagree with the decisions of the voters this year. I love that country seems to be ushering in a new era of artists. But it feels like that journey from yesterday’s winners to today’s went by way too fast.

I feel exactly the opposite. I found Alison Bonaguro’s blog petty and boring, which is par for the course for her.
I’m not surprised Alison Bonaguro wanted to see more of the same old, same old, because she writes at least 90 percent of her blogs about the same dozen singers.
Alison Bonaguro has been given a pulpit to help young female and male artists, but chooses to devote most of her time writing trivial crap about the stars who’ve already made it.
I think it was the best CMA Awards ever, though there’s still much room for improvement. The CMA is still quite sexist, and country radio is worse than ever.
If that’s ever going to change, it won’t be because of anyone at CMT.
Man, for the first time ever, I agree with what Alison wrote. Very strange cmas.
Did you notice on CMT (if you watch it) they didn’t interview Rascal Flatts at all. Do you think there is a reason for it or did they just not want to be interviewed????Just wandering. I hope they win Big Sunday at the American Music Awards. They deserve it.
RF didn’t even walk the red carpet. I like Lady A, but the guys were 100% robbed of the vocal group award. The industry votes for who they want; I don’t believe for one minute that they follow any sort of “critera” to determine the winners.
