Kid Rock, Charlie Daniels, and Dolly Parton were presented with their stars on the Music City Walk of Fame today. The Tennessean has a great rundown of the presentation today.
Before y’all get your panties in a wad and start spouting-off obsentities about Kid Rock….put on your walkin shoes and take a stroll through the Country Music Hall of Fame Park, and keep your eyes on the ground. You’ll see that many of the stars on the walk of fame are simply great musicians of all genres who love Nashville.
Even Kid Rock himself was aware of the ‘mixed emotions’ of the crowd…Apparently our website wasn’t the only place people were making their feelings known.
Rock said, “I was just as surprised at this as I’m sure a lot of you are. I heard the clash of screams and boos, and I understand. I’m not mad at anybody.”
Mayor Karl Dean even got in on the action…poking fun at Kid Rock.
Kid Rock came to town with a bang, liked it here and visits often,” Dean said. “We are glad he supports Nashville, and glad that he’s been staying out of the news when he’s here.” Rock responded during his acceptance speech.
“Mayor Dean, I’d also like to add, since you started the comments, that you have one of the finest police forces,” he said. “I’ve never seen a nicer jail.”
All kidding aside, Charlie Daniel’s was proud of Kid Rock’s ’star status.’
I think it shows great diversity,” he said before the ceremony. “Everybody that is involved deserves one, with the possible exception of me… I am extremely honored to be a part of what’s going on here today. As Humphrey Bogart said in (The Maltese Falcon), this is the stuff dreams are made out of. My dream was to become part of the Nashville music scene. It’s my chosen place to live, out of any place on earth. To be able to live here and to be recognized as part of the music business here is very special.”
Also present to receive her star was Dolly Parton.
It strikes me in a pure place in my heart and in my soul to know that I am part of this wonderful city and all of the wonderful things that have been here,” said Parton, who was clearly the star of the afternoon.
