Taylor Swift vs. Kanye West
So the dust is starting to settle and apologies (if that’s what you call it) have been given. Looking back, we want to know if you think that it was all staged.
Over the years the VMA’s have been known for stunts and outrageous behavior. Did they deliver that to your TV last night or is Kanye West just that big of a jerk?
My opinion is still out on this one. Taylor looked pretty much horrified and almost in tears. But a lot of readers have emailed me to remind us that Taylor loves to act.

I think the whole thing was a stunt to ingratiate Taylor Swift to the MTV demographic. Since she’s technically “country” (though that’s debatable to some), she really shouldn’t even be on MTV at all. By having Kanye upstage her, it makes her a sympathetic character — and Kanye is the best choice to do the upstaging as he’s prone to throwing temper… Read More tantrums anyway.
It’s also a little convenient that the camera happened to cut to Beyonce’s reaction so quickly during his rant, and that Taylor was conveniently located backstage when Beyonce caller her back on stage.
I could be totally wrong about all of this, but I wouldn’t put it past MTV to pull that sort of thing.
Kanye West is just that big of a jerk!! I can’t believe anyone would think that was staged!! Taylor showed a lot of class by staying till the end and having enough composure to come out and give her well deserved speech. Beyonce is another classy lady for what she did to redeem the moment for Taylor.
If this was staged…then Taylor knew nothing about it. I heard from someone who was working the VMA’s that Taylor was backstage crying hysterically after it happened. Not a chance that was staged with Taylor’s knowledge!
Kanye is that big of a jerk. Just watch some of the video from previous rants from him. Yes…Kayne is 100% jerk!
If Taylor was so shaken up over Kanye, how did she pull off that flawless performance just minutes afterwards? She didn’t look like she had been crying… not at all.
Jimmy Carter said that he received an email back from MTV that no, it was not staged. I never believed it was from the first, and anyone that does wasn’t really watching. He had been drinking prior to arriving at the show and during the red carpet and backstage before the show, and he has done this sort of thing before.

#1: It’s the MTV awards. MUSIC Television. That doesn’t list a specific genre.
#2: They would already have a camera on Beyonce because she was up for the award. They didn’t cut to her any faster than they did to anyone who won an award last night. They have the cameras on the nominees, so they can get their immediate reaction.
Bottom line: Kanye is a complete a@@hole!
Look, nobody likes Kanye West. Being an asshole is all part of his image. He revels in it. People will still buy his hip hop albums and he has a solid following that won’t dwindle even after this. People who don’t like him for this never liked him to begin with.
Bottom line: America got Punk’d by MTV last night.
I don’t know if it was staged or not. I know MTV is capable of anything. This was less than 30 minutes into the show and you better bet the ratings went up drastically for the rest of the show. Who knows. MTV could have easily convinced Kayne to pull this stunt. Also, how convienent was it that Taylor said she was told to stand beside the stage when Beyonce won video of the year and Beyonce asked her to come up. I don’t doubt Beyonce is a nice person and would have done that anyways, but that looked a little planned.
Kanye is a sad, ignorant excuse for a hunan being. He showed his true clolors last night, and I hope everyone stops supporting his music and buying his records. A peice of dirt like that should never be allowed to represent any genre of music. I think the whole idea that this was staged is ludicrious and plan disrespectful; the person who started that rumor should be ashamed of themselves. It has been reported by Rolling Stone that Taylor was seen “hysterically crying backstage.” The looks on the faces of Taylor and Beyonce pretty muxh sumed everything up. Also, this was Taylor’s first VMA Award, why would see allow a stunt like that ruin her moment? There are a lot of people saying that they stick with country music because nothing like this would happen at a country awards show; I actually disagree. Nothing that extreme would happen, but there are arrogant, disrespectful people in every genre of music (John Rich and Kenny Chesney come to mind for country.) Look at how Beyonce, Pink, Colbie Calit and Katy Perry acted; they are non-couintry artists who showed tons of respect and class, Also, Taylor’s performance was taped prior to the show’s airing; that’s why she did not appear upset in the clip. Her voice was still trembeling even when she came back onstage after Beyonce invited her up. Kudos to Taylor for remaining classy and respectful, and kudos to Beyonce for showing what a graceful and sweet person she is.

Taylor’s performance was at the NY Subway prior to the show!

Taylor has always let her fans in on her jokes and fun. She doesn’t seem the type to be part of a tasteless stunt like this; it just goes against her character and the class she has shown. Taylor’s an honest girl! Kanye may well have had this planned, and others may have been in on it, but I don’t think Taylor knew. Did you see the look on her face?
MTV is known for drama and personally I think all this was staged. Too convenient that TS was waiting off stage when Beyonce was talking and TS did not look like she had been crying–and who better to add drama than Kanya . It could very well be that a lot of people are upset that the better artists are not getting resognized as they should because atists like TS & Miley, that can’t sing that good, are winning the awards (thanks to their tween fans). I think it came across as a stinking and rude thing to do wheather it was staged or not. Sure made me like West less than I already did.

You know I was actually thinking that after the shock of it. I just couldn’t believe somebody would do that to a girl not alone a teenager. MTV has been making this show a circus act with every year that passes. One of these days it’ll be an all out orgy and we won’t even be surprised…
My first thought also was that it was staged…..security is so tight at these things how did and does he continue to get out on the stage? If it was staged I do not think Taylor was in on it. She’s not my cup of tea musically, but I feel for her, that had to be hard.

No, I don’t think it was staged. Kanye wouldn’t give up his performance for a stunt and I don’t think Taylor would ever have agreed to it! They had no idea how she would react so she would have to have been in on it. I’m not a huge Taylor fan, but I thought she showed a lot of closs.
Not a fan of mtv, kanye or Taylor. But I have a question for her fans. If it turns out that this was a stunt and Taylor was in on it, how will that make you feel? Do you believe that her performance was live? I’ll have to say that I think it was pre-taped. Yet on the view this morning she said she had to get it together because she had to perform live right after it happened. Maybe she is not as truthful as her fans think. Stunt or not, it was in bad taste. But Taylor sure has gotten a lot of free press.
To the previous poster, it’s like speculating, “hey, what if Ronald Reagan killed somebody. Would that make you like him any less?” What a stupid question. One could ask all kinds of stupid questions like that. What if September 11 WAS caused by the US government or President Bush? Would that make you respect them less? The answer is of course it would make you respect them less. But such questions are beyond stupid and inane. I have no time for September 11 conspiricasts or people who could even suggest this was staged (ie, taylor being in on it). The chances of it being staged are nil. Especially after the fact that Kanye has basically destroyed his career.
That was RUDE!!!!!!!! SO RUDE!!! If he really thought that Beyonce deserved it, just don’t say it right in front of Taylor!!!!!!! In front of millions of people!!! He clearly doesn’t have the brains to think of other people at all. He really hurt Taylor Swift!!! He makes me sick!! Kanyen West….YOU SUCK!!
